WHAT IS FOAMCORE? Foamcore is a material that has been around for decades, but has only recently seen widespread use. Foamcore is a "sandwich" of 2 sheets of clay-coated, heavy paper encasing an inner core of styrene foam. It is lightweight, yet very strong and is easily cut with a matte or utility knife . When used properly, foamcore will not warp and accepts white glue for strong bonds. WHERE DO I GET FOAMCORE? At Blick Art Supplies or at an art supply store. Although many types of stores carry foamcore, such as office supply or crafts stores, we have found only art supply stores, or on-line carry the size needed for building RRinaBox, i.e. 32" x 40" x 3/16" thick. HOW MUCH DOES FOAMCORE COST? Prices for foamcore vary widely, so it pays to shop around. Foamcore is available in 2 varieties, both of which work for RRinaBox – "plain" and what we call "sticky-back". "Plain" foamcore ranges in price form $4 to $9 per sheet, and requires an adhesive spray for mounting the patterns. "Sticky-back" foamcore has adhesive on one side (it is protected by a piece of slick paper which easily peels off) and can be from $8 to$18 per sheet. When ordering on-line, good deals can be found, and many companies offer free shipping when the order is over a certain $ amount. So again, it pays to shop around. WHICH IS BETTER–PLAIN v. STICKY-BACK? Both methods of mounting your RRinaBox full-size patterns to foamcore are covered in the instructional DVD. "Sticky-back" is faster, easier & less messy (& the kind we use) than the "plain" foamcore. Although the price of "plain" foamcore can be significantly less than "sticky-back", the plain requires 3-4 cans of spray adhesive, depending on the size of the layout you want to build. HOW MUCH FOAMCORE DO I BUY? This obviously depends on the size of the layout you want to build. Each layout requires different amounts. It might be a good idea to get a couple of extra sheets, because the material is so versatile you’ll find other uses for it, like extensions, control boxes, buildings, etc. Remember to save the scraps from your cuttings–they can be used later for various scenery techniques. IS THERE A CHOICE OF TRACK PLANS? Yes. The handbook includes 12 track plans for each scale. Plans range from a basic oval to layouts with 3 levels and have many switching opportunities. Multiple variations of track plans have been developed by customers of RRinaBox. HOW DO I ORDER RRINABOX FULL-SIZE PATTERNS? RRinaBox is only available through the manufacturer at this time.
